5 Films You Probably Haven't Seen But Need To

Most good films find themselves doing the rounds by word of mouth, good promotion or being seen on the TV, papers, internet etc. However some good films slip through the radar and go without the appreciation of widespread acclaim. So here's some that you might not have heard of:

Hobo With A Shotgun
This film is, simply put, a mad fucking trip. A distinctive and unique style immediately engulfs you when you watch this film. The film uses a strange filter that gives the film a childish look but make no mistake there's nothing childish about this film. It has violence galore and a whole lot of swearing, laavely jabley ay? It has the sort of violence that you could only think of if you were locked up in a looney house. The story is about a hobo who moves to a new town. However the town is fucked up and corrupt to the core. Eventually the hobo decides to take matters into his own hands, hence the name. If you watch this film though I highly recommend a joint or two, you'll need 'em.

50/50
Ok just to clear this up now, this film has some pretty sad moments but IS supposed to be a comedy. The film is about a young guy who gets cancer and shows his journey through his treatment and final operation. I know what you're thinking, 'A comedy about cancer, what the fuck!?'. But trust me the film nails the balance between handling a sensitive subject and comedy. The film also helps you realise what people go through when they get cancer and how it affects the people around you. Plus with talent like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen on screen how can it fail to deliver the comedy?

Battle Royale (Batoru Rowaiaru)
The Japanese, smart, graceful, elegant, traditional and apparently fucking insane. This film is the original Hunger Games. In case you don't know that film either, the film basically entails what the title describes, a fight to the death. It's a thriller with a twist. The story is set in a world where Japanese school truancy is at ridiculous levels, so the government pass the BR act. The acts consists of a class being selected (supposedly the naughtiest) and shipped out to a small remote island and are forced to kill each other till there is just one left. The film is actually considered to be one of Japan's best films to date and has gained widespread acclaim from critics and audiences. However due to the graphic nature of the violence and the age of the children fighting each other, it also had global and domestic controversy, some countries opting to ban the film.

No Strings Attached
This film is kinda my wildcard, it's a Rom-Com. Now lets be honest here, every guy a little bit of a soft spot for a rom-com or two, if you say 'no I don't' then you're fucking lying. Now reasons why guys like rom-coms can vary but most of the time it's for one reason: you see a hot actor get nailed. Let me tell you this film delivers, as if Natalie Portman's romp with Mila Kunis in Black Swan didn't make you cum in your pants, Portman get shagged silly in this film (sorry lads, not tits though). Past all the sex there is some decent comedy and a story that got me more committed to than I'm ashamed to say. Aston Kutcher provides a good co-star to Portman and their chemistry on set is convincing. Ludacris also provides some comic relief and makes you feel a little more manly whilst watching the film. All in all it's a good film with a predictable story but you can get some laughs from it.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
This is simply the king of stoner films. Yes, yes, yes, I know you're probably thinking 'What about Harold & Kumar!?' Yes that's a good film, but this one has it all; guns, girls, explosions, Will Ferrell, weed (obviously), Chris Rock and a monkey. The sense of humour in this film is spot on, attempting to insult itself rather than trying to create a cheesy laugh. Celebrities make cameos and appearances throughout the film and everyone will have their favourite. The story consists of stoners Jay and Silent Bob on their adventure to Hollywood in order to receive royalties for a film their personalities were the basis for. However the duo are easily sidetracked and somehow mixed up in a diamond heist. From then on their adventure goes from one hilarity to the next. Viewers of previous Jay and Silent Bob encounters, such as Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma will find sneaky references to these films. Overall, this film is not one to be missed and I can promise that you will laugh out loud at least once.
