So with all the new found independence at university it's suddenly becoming apparent that cooking can be fucking annoying after a long, hungover day of boring lectures. However eating out isn't as cheap as once assumed when the rents paid the bill. So here's a list of places to eat that won't cost more than the price of what could potentially be 5 Jägerbombs.
Yates
Great place to grab a pint, get a meal, watch the footy and even have a low key night out. Problem is you've got to watch what time you go here. Go in a the wrong time and you could be standing up with a plate in your hands squashed between a smelly Chelsea fan and a Liverpool fan that won't shut the fuck up. If you can get hold of one of their student discount cards you can grab a burger and chips for as little as £1.99. If you don't have one of those they have a set menu where you can get 2 meals for £7.99 so it isn't great if your group has an odd number. In the evening this place ususally becomes quite lively so be sure to get there early otherwise you might be chowing down amongst party-goers.
Wetherspoons
This place does the best value curry club nights! (usually Thursday's) For under a fiver you can get a massive curry, naan, a poppadom and even a pint of your choice. Can't do much better for than that for value. And if you're still peckish afterwards you can add a pudding on for £1.99 however trust me when I say this; they're some big ass puddings. They don't just do curry nights, they do steak, roast and burger club nights too! If you can't make it down for any of these club nights, say you have a late lecture or a society social/meeting then the menu is also priced moderately however they aren't as good value as the club nights.
Student Union
Who's going to know what a student wants for their money better than a university... Across the nation most university unions provide food all day round, most at good prices. What's great about union food is that they know what a student expects from their meals because a lot of the time the students are the ones making it. Student unions often provide a good range of food too because let's be honest, no one likes eating a burger night in night out.
Brewers Fayre
A fantastic place to get a great mix and range of food. Similar to Wetherspoons except they have a theme for every night of the week meaning no matter what day it is you can get some good grub at a good price. Some of the themes include a carvery, tex mex and a chicken shack. This shit is all you can eat too so don't leave that place till you know you've got your money's worth!
The usual fast food places
Sounds a bit silly but these places are still a good source for cheap food, particuarly if, like me, you don't give a shit about your health. Now most of these places have student deals, just do your research and don't be afraid to ask. Take McDonald's for instance, a lot of people don't know that students can get a Big Mac and fries for £1.99 or with any value meal you buy students can get either a free cheeseburger or McFlurry. All you've got to do is ask, besides if you're a student make the most while you can!
